What is Baseline4TFS? It is a module of inteGREAT4TFS
Baseline4TFS is a web-based solution that easily provides baselining of TFS work items. This tool provides users with the ability to view all baselines and compare between the older and the latest versions of work items. Having a baseline on each project allows users to monitor current project performance, manage release scope and also to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
Create New Baseline in Team Project
Users can create a new baseline by adding work item(s) from the Team project. It also allows user to add Description and State properties while creating a Baseline.
Users can see a list of existing baselines in the selected team project, under the Project Baseline folder, along with their work item details.
This function will provide users with the latest baseline(s), added by another user on same Team project.
Users can compare one baseline with other baselines, as well as with the current version of work items on TFS. The comparison result will show Revision ID and comparison status of the work items. The comparison results helps users to view any changes made in a Baseline.
Compare Work Item Revisions
Users can compare a Work Item’s Revision with other Revisions. The comparison is highlighted in Work item pane enabling users to quickly grasp the updates. Users can either see the Summary or the detailed view of a work item.
Users can generate a difference report that provides a comparison of Work item Revisions in a Baseline. It provides two different views for users; Summary/Detailed view.
Copy Work Items
Users can copy any or all work item(s) from one project to another project. The application also allows users to create a new baseline of copied work item(s). Work items will be copied along with all their fields, attachments and Links.
Open Work Item in Web Access
Users can open selected work items in Web Access to view their fields. The application also allows users to edit the work item fields.
Manage Project Scope
Users can baseline a project once business signoff has been received and then create additional baselines if and when the requirements change. A difference report can easily be generated to indicate how the project has changed from its initial acceptance.
Manage Release Planning
Users can create a baseline of a project at the conclusion of a release or iteration. The any work items that have not been completed in the iteration can be selected and copied to the next release or iteration. As well users may choose to copy all completed work items to a new project as the next release foundation and add new requirements from that point onwards.
Promote Requirements Reuse
Certain types of requirements lend themselves to reuse in many projects; nonfunctional requirements are an example of this. Users can store these types of requirements centrally in an ‘enterprise project’ and then can access that project, copy the reusable work items and include them in a new project. Used properly, this approach can help to maintain consistency of information and dramatically reduce requirements elicitation timelines.
Comply to Regulators’ Reporting Requirements
Industry regulators force companies to ensure that the state of a project, and its corresponding work items, can clearly be reported on at key milestones within the product’s lifecycle. Baseline4TFS provides this level of granular reporting simply by following a few easy steps and producing a report indicating all workitems and their links at any point in a project.
