Release notes and documentation

Modern Requirements4TFS is a full, web-based solution that includes a series of modules to help you define and manage requirements easily and efficiently. It’s built into Microsoft’s Team Foundation Server and Visual Studio Team Services, which can reside in the cloud or on premise. This means Modern Requirements users have access to a series of new hubs and functionality, enabling them to:

Define requirements visually with diagrams, use cases and mock-ups.
Automatically generate test cases and scenarios from diagrams and use cases.
Analyze the impact of changing, adding or removing new requirements.
Automatically produce custom-formatted Word or PDF documents.
Initiate review and approval requests online with e-signature for compliance.
Run traceability analyses to ensure quality and identify gaps or dependencies.
Create, edit, view and compare baselines to manage project scope and track changes.

Smart Docs is a Word-like authoring tool that is available online and located in the user interface of VSTS or TFS. It enables you to author VSTS/TFS work item content in document view, using a complete set of rich text controls built in it.

Avoid conflicting and outdated requirements by using comprehensive configuration settings to define and automatically generate traceability matrices. View complete requirements coverage in a horizontal view or intersectional format, easily plan, track and analyze project quality and completeness.

Monitor project performance, manage release scope and improve accuracy for future estimates. Create baselines at any point of time, compare items by revisions and see changes in a track-changes type view. Compare baselines to the current project state, or with other baselines, at another point of time to easily view changes and monitor project progress.

Create diagrams online using a wide range of shapes and connectors inspired by Microsoft’s Visio. Use pre-defined stencils, simply drag and drop shapes and modify properties. Link your diagrams to requirements, mock-ups, use cases or tasks. Drill down and continue to decompose information or use the Analysis tab to automatically generate scenarios and test cases.

Alice (BA Assistant) is the first in a series of AI-inspired tools in the Modern Requirements family. It’s a cognitive business analyst assistant that enables you to elicit requirements automatically through a logically structured question hierarchy.

Manage your reviews and approval requests online. Create review packages to gather feedback or request approvals with or without e-signature. See responses in real time, respond and collaborate on requirements. From there you can create new tasks or actionable work items as required.

Define use cases textually while the system automatically produces a visual verification of the narrative created. Use tools within the editor to create a consistent structure, link requirements and analyze scenarios.

Use a series of HTML and Java script controls to organize your thoughts and design user interfaces and wireframes. Create new screen shots or import existing ones and build on top of them. Link your requirements, navigate through pages and experience transitions. Share your work with stakeholders and gather textual or voice-based feedback.

Use the Impact Analyzer from almost anywhere and view requirements in a mind map view to perform your impact assessments. Visually view linked information and easily identify dependences or gaps before making a change, calculate and create a list of affected items and efforts required.

Auto-generate detailed HTML reports directly from the backlog or query view. Filter, group, sort and export the information as a Word of PDF file. Use reporting to share information with external stakeholders and generate business or system requirement documents.

Create reusable custom reporting templates using a mix of static and dynamic content. Insert your company logo, cover pages, introductory text and more.

Use advanced reporting functionality to produce documents, using multiple queries, in different formats, within different sections of a document. Easily design and generate business requirement and system requirement specification documents.

Elicit and define requirements using a list of pre-defined questions. Use out of the box templates for specific specifications or create your own templates with your own questions.

As you answer the questions, you can create your requirement work items thereby ensuring that you’re not missing any important requirements that need to be considered.

This is a new module added to Modern Requirements4TFS Suite. It’s ideal for users who need to take quick notes whether they’re gathering requirements or demoing to a client. As such, this information is usually captured in a raw format and needs to be analyzed and documented for client reviews. Smart Note enables users to manage informal documents similar to the way Microsoft OneNote enables them to. This means you can record your meeting minutes and brainstorming sessions, among other things. Users can shape their thoughts and ideas, type and take notes anywhere on the page, add tags and make checklists and to-do lists. They can also share notes with other stakeholders via email.

Custom ID is a component that enables users to set or assign a customized ID to a TFS work item. Users can configure a required field along with the required formatting for Custom ID.

Usually, corporations and enterprises have their own standard IDs. For different projects, different formats representing their type and project names are considered in assigning IDs. Custom ID can take care of all your needs in the area of ID customization.

Dirty Flag guarantees that all stakeholders understand the effect of a change made by any team member. This helps keep intact the context of change on associated items as well.

Users can audit changes made throughout the project to warn the group when changes that can affect their associated teams. It also provides a comparison between a work item’s previous state (on which the item has been modified) and the current (latest) state in TFS.

MR Mail

MR Mail service helps users to instantiate requirements or discussions in TFS from email. In most cases, requirements or important discussions regarding an existing requirement are carried out on emails.

MR Mail manages all replies in the work item discussion field. This enables users to get complete details, reviews and feedback on a particular requirement in the same place.

Collaborate visually

Sharing your thoughts and plans visually will enable you to illustrate complex ideas in dynamic ways. Visuals grab and engage attention, increase credibility in our messages and are much more flexible than verbal or textual communication. In doing this your audience will view information with more clarity, helping avoid any confusion or misunderstandings.

Improve scope management

Baselining is essential for managing project change, as the whole scope of what is being developed, along with schedule and costs for project completion. By creating a benchmark you can evaluate change requests and actual results to ensure work completed aligns with what was scheduled and agreed to. Baselines are also heavily used and relied upon in compliant industries for auditability.

Improve change management

Save time and improve estimates by predicting consequences and disruptions that may be caused by change requests. Identify potential consequences of a change, and estimate modifications and level of effort required to accomplish a change before implementing it.

Improve project quality

Easily track relationships between requirements, test cases and release plans. Track requirements from their conception through to delivery, prioritize team time more effectively and reduce waste of precious resources on non-priority items.
